Spend the Day in Gatlinburg

Travel toward Gatlinburg for an enjoyable balance of large-scale attractions and quaint mountain boutiques. This scenic town is very walkable. Most visitors park in a parking garage and walk the main street. On your short drive from Pigeon Forge toward Gatlinburg, consider stopping for a photo at the official entrance sign to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It is a tradition you will want to have in your family photo album. This is a great way to start your perfect day trip!

Attractions and Food

Start your day out right by visiting America’s most fun aquarium at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies! Here you will see the world's best shark exhibit and most spectacular underwater tunnel! You and your family will be amazed seeing the 1.4 million gallon world-class aquarium featuring 12-foot sharks and thousands of exotic sea creatures. Any age will enjoy the hourly dive shows, petting stingrays, and even hold a horseshoe crab. Not to mention, the new penguin exhibit!

Next, hop on over to the Hard Rock Café for a ROCKIN’ meal! Whether you're in the mood for a quick burger and some sight-seeing or want to hang out a while, the Hard Rock Café provides authentic experiences that rock. But I’ve got to warn: you just never know what you'll see when stepping into the world's only Hard Rock Cafe with a wedding chapel!

Evening Splendor

As the sun begins to set, head downtown to the Gatlinburg Space Needle, and ride the glass elevator over 400 feet up and step out to a breathtaking 360 degree view of the Great Smoky Mountains.

Observe the lush, green foliage in summer and the foggy valleys during spring. The autumn leaves are vibrant with red, gold, and orange colors. If you brave the cold, you can witness the most beautiful of all, the snow covered Smokies.

The Space Needle is the best place to admire the changing seasons. The observation deck also provides a spectacular view of Gatlinburg’s downtown area from one end to the other. Enjoy Gatlinburg’s lights by night…It’s a must see!

Depending on time and weather, some visitors choose to journey 32 miles onward to see Cherokee, NC. Vacationers also appreciate the quick trip back to Pigeon Forge Shows and Restaurants.
