Music in the Mountains

July 15 – August 5

Please plan to join us in summer 2007 when Music in the Mountains celebrates its 21st season as a world-class festival of classical music. This year’s three-week festival will feature more than 35 concerts performed by musicians in multiple venues, including: Durango Mountain Resort; Fort Lewis College; Rotary and Buckley Parks in Durango; and, City Park and BootJack Ranch in Pagosa Springs all located in the stunning San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado.

Beginning in 1987 with 11 musicians, Music in the Mountains has grown to a three-week festival featuring musicians from around the world and offering orchestral, chamber, conservatory, and Pops concerts. Free performances for children and their families are featured during the festival.
The mission of Music in the Mountains is to provide quality classical music performances for residents of the Four corners and visitors, with a special focus on introducing classical music to young people.

Tuk Tuk Pedicab is Durango’s newest and most fun form of transportation

Tuk Tuk Pedicab is a bicycle drawn taxi service that will provide safe, environmentally friendly, and most importantly, fun taxi service to locals and tourists in Durango's Central Business District.
The cabs themselves are driven by a 21-speed mountain bike, which are pedaled by independent contractors, and include turn signals, stoplights, and running lights. Up to three passengers can be carried and each individual driver determines the rates of service.
Tuk Tuk Pedicab is owned and operated by Frank Maple and Marc Snider but the drivers of the pedicab will be independent riders that set their own hours and rates. Marc Snider says: “We think this is a great opportunity to not only provide a fun and valuable service to downtown, but also for local guys and girls to get paid to ride a bicycle.”

Tuk Tuk Pedicab will not have a “staging” area, but rather operate as a true taxi service and be continually trolling for passengers. The service will also be available through cellular telephone that the driver will carry. The service will be a fun alternative to driving for hotel guest to reach downtown, for bars and restaurants to help their guest in reaching their next destination and for to go order delivery service. Tuk Tuk Pedicabs are also available to rent for special events such as weddings.
Frank Maple says: “I believe this is another great addition to downtown Durango that will help define Durango from other Mountain towns-and therefore reinforce it as a must experience town.”
