Gas prices below national average, plenty of fuel available.

Lowest Gas Prices in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville
Tennessee Gas Prices provided by GasBuddy.com

Looks like we have seen the last of empty gas pumps and high gas prices in the Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Sevierville Smoky Mountains because the lines at gas stations are gone and the prices are now below the national average - all just in time for the 2008 peak leaf season which is just about to begin!

Now that gas prices are lower again and availability is good everyone is breathing a sigh of relief. Hurricane Ike didn't hit the Smoky Mountains, but gas shortages and gas gouging did. The gas problems in the Smoky Mountains first turned up in North Carolina and then spread to Tennessee, but while North Carolina is still having problems with inflated gas prices, gas shortages and long lines, everything is back to normal in the Tennessee Smokies.

We suggest that people who have to drive into or through the North Carolina Smokies fill up before they get there as they can save quite a bit of time and as much as 50 cents or more a gallon. Officials and energy experts say that everything is back to normal in Tennessee and expect things to be back to normal by the end of October in North Carolina.

We asked our visitors if high gas prices were going to keep them from taking their vacation to the Smokies, below are the responses we received.

Becky wrote, “No, gas prices won't keep us from coming this year. Matter of fact we have our cabin rented and ready to come. This time I had a hard time finding a cabin so I look for you to be very busy this fall. Can’t wait to get there. See you soon.”

Linda wrote, “We just got back from our vacation in Pigeon Forge and had no problems at all with gasoline availability.  We are from the Chicago land area and our gas prices are 60 cents a gallon higher than in Tennessee.  It was a relief to pay less.  We had a great vacation and loved going to "The Miracle" and the magic show.  We suggest both to anyone who visits Pigeon Forge.”

Karen wrote, “We visit the Smokies twice a year, once in the fall and again in March for our Anniversary. The high gas prices may change the way we do things, but it will not keep us away from our sanctuary! Our trips are a much needed getaway.  I cannot tell you what it does for us each visit. We may not spend as much or trim the fat on other splurges, but we always make it to the Smokies!”

Glenda wrote, “No, the gas prices are not going to keep me away from the Smokey Mountains. We are still planning on a Thanksgiving in the Mountains.”

Mary wrote, “Gas prices are not going to stop us from coming to Pigeon Forge. I've been to Pigeon Forge two times. My husband & I love it there. We've never been there to see all the Christmas lights and this is our main reason for coming this time. I'm a big Elvis fan so I must see the Memories Theater show. My husband as well as myself both like the Comedy Barn show so we will see that one also. Dollywood is on our agenda too. We will see you next month.”

Vickey wrote, “The sad fact is, gas prices, like everything is going to go up. We were in Pigeon Forge in August for a week, we will be there in November for a week to see the lights and we have already made reservations for July 2009. Vacations are a necessary part of life to me and the 6 hour drive to Pigeon Forge is worth it to me. The gas price situation has gotten out of hand, but I feel we need to do the best we can to enjoy life.”

Debbie wrote, “Gas prices will not keep us from our annual October trip, my entire family (parents, sisters, brother and their families will all be heading that way on Friday, Oct 10, 2008. Can't wait!”

Charlotte wrote, “For us gas prices won't keep us from the Smokies.  Although we live only 3 hours away.  That makes it easier on us.  I know that gas prices will keep some people away.  However I look at it this way.  If we give up everything that we love and enjoy due to gas prices that means the big oil companies have succeeded in what they are doing.  I understand that due to economic hard times people are cutting back, but I just can not see giving up everything we love.”

Deborah wrote, “No - gas prices will not be stopping our trip to the Smokies in November. I have been planning this trip for almost a year now, to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. We actually saved our stimulus checks and are going to be using those funds towards gas and lodging.  I have been setting money aside for lunches and dinners. We just love going to the Smokies - especially in November for the Winterfest of Lights. I can't wait to see our lovely cabin that we rented in Pigeon Forge.  You may think I'm crazy - but I go on the website everyday and look at it. Thanks for your regular emails.  I enjoy reading the information.”

Teresa wrote, “No, gas prices will not affect my trip to the Smokies this year.  I don’t know how much I wouldn’t pay per gallon to cancel my trip to the Smokies.  It’s kind of like the A1 Steak Sauce slogan, “It’s that important.”   My family, friends, and I should be there by the time this email is sent next week.  Please keep us in your prayers for a safe and sunny fall vacation.”
