Even after its creation, many people continued to live in
these mountains. In addition to wilderness information, Wilderness Wildlife Week participants can find out about human life in the Smokies. Many homesteads are now considered to be historic sites. Though no one currently inhabits their old homesteads, many cabins, mills, churches, cemeteries and other signs of early life are still visible throughout these mountains. With scenes of everything from giant evergreens to black bears, to rustic cabins, everyone wants to experience the wonders of the Great Smoky Mountains, but where does a visitor begin?
