The Hallmark Channel has done it again, this time with a little Smoky Mountain flair. The channel best known for its heartwarming holiday movies has teamed up with none other than Dolly Parton for a new film, Christmas at Dollywood, set to air on the Hallmark Channel at 8:00 pm on Sunday, December 8. The movie is part of the channel’s famous “Countdown to Christmas” celebration, which starts in late October.
Christmas at Dollywood Movie
We’re looking forward to catching the Christmas at Dollywood movie when it airs. According to promotional material about the movie, the plot centers around Broadway producer and single mom Rachel (played by Danica McKellar), who loses funding for a major holiday show she had in the works in New York. After a phone call from a friend here in the Smokies, she decides to leave The Big Apple and return to her roots in East Tennessee to produce a Christmas show at Dollywood.
Movie Plot
She meets her production partner Luke when she gets to Dollywood. Luke is the park’s entertainment director, but he has his eye on a GM position and sees the show as a stepping stone. Together Rachel & Luke work on the Dollywood production, of course with some hiccups along the way, and eventually realize that love lurks in unexpected places. The movie puts a sweet Smoky Mountain spin on the typical Christmas love story. We think the best part is a cameo from Dolly Parton herself!
A Dolly Parton Christmas
According to some behind the scenes information from IMDB, the movie is still in production as of mid-October. We’re looking forward to seeing some familiar sights from around Pigeon Forge in the film. If you’re a fan of Dolly Parton and Christmas movies, you might know that this isn’t her first foray into the holiday film genre. In 2016, she stared in “Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love.” This movie was filmed right here in Sevier County and originally aired on NBC.
