Runners and walkers can get set for Running with the Bears 5K, the city’s nighttime road race that begins at 10 p.m. at Nantahala Outdoor Center and winds through downtown Gatlinburg. Previously known as the Earth Day 5K, the race is one of Gatlinburg’s premier athletic events, filled with activities, and special prizes for runners. Proceeds from the race benefit the efforts of the Gatlinburg Chamber Foundation and Friends of the Smokies to protect and preserve the black bear. Register early to secure your spot. Race night registration begins at 8:00 p.m.
