Trail Description Written by Caroline Sullivan

Anthony Creek Trail is a single trail connecting the Cades Cove picnic area to Bote Mountain Trail. It is often combined with connecting trails to reach locations like Rocky Top on Thunderhead Mountain, Spence Field, and Russell Field.

To reach the trailhead, navigate to Cades Cove and turn left before entering the parking area just before the Cades Cove loop. The road here forks in both directions. Follow it to the left toward the picnic area and not the campground. The road loops around the picnic area; you will find the Anthony Creek Trail sign on the far end past the restrooms and behind a gate.

The trail follows Anthony Creek for the first two miles before narrowing and becoming quite steep. The last portion of the trail before reaching the junction with Bote Mountain is the most strenuous part.

Anthony Creek Trail is a horse trail with several scenic water crossings. All of them are bridged (some properly wide for horses) for easy hiker traversal. Backcountry campsite #9 is located adjacent to the trail in the last mile near the intersection with Bote Mountain.
