Trail Description Written by Caroline Sullivan

Curry Mountain Trail is a 3.3 mile trail from the Metcalf Bottoms area to Meigs Mountain Trail. To reach the trailhead, park toward the end of the parking lot at the Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Area and head east next to Little River Road for about 100 yards. You'll find the trailhead across the street to your right.

The trail starts by winding around an old logging road between the Curry He and Curry She mountains. You'll immediately begin on the steepest part of the trail to ascend Curry He before reaching Curry Gap between the two mountains at the 2 mile marker. The remainder of the trail is a gentle incline up and around Curry She until the trail levels out at Long Arm Ridge.

The mountain Curry He gets its name from a mispronunciation of the original Cherokee name: gura-hi, referring to a particular salad green that grows in the area. After settlers corrupted the name, they also named its neighbor mountain Curry She.

Curry Mountain Trail is a nice springtime hike for those who enjoy wildflowers, and it also makes a nice late fall or winter hike when the leaves have fallen from the trees and you can see several mountain peaks from the higher parts of the trail.
